Apple made some big announcements for the WWDC 2012 conference, and everybody, from journalists to end users, is pretty excited about the new features that will hit the market this fall. The beta version of iOS 6 looks promising enough, with Siri improvements, Facebook integration, and a new version of iCloud. Besides the news on iOS 6, people also talk about OS X Mountain Lion, new Mac models, Apple TV, and the new iPhone.
iOS improvements
- Facebook integration – while iOS was already doing well in terms of social integration through its Twitter functions, adding Facebook to the mix is certain to make things even more interesting.
- New mapping tools– Apple no longer wants to use Google maps and intends to put in use its own mapping system. The 3D feature that Apple uses for this service is guaranteed to up the ante in the battle against Google. A turn by turn navigation service is expected to be included with this package.
- A revamped tracking tool – While this is a tool intended for developers, it may interest users as well. It is said that Apple intends to pay more attention to protecting the privacy of its users, without putting developers at a disadvantage. The new tool will replace the UDID system that has been in use until now.
- Siri gets a facelift– Not only that Siri improvements are announced for the new iOS, but the well known assistant will also be integrated for iPad. The voice recognition software will be able to offer more on the spot information, such as match scores, restaurant and movies information and it will also be able to set a reservation for you. Expanded voice support is also expected with the new version of Siri.
The new operating system for Mac will finally get released. While in February, the Apple representatives were only talking about a summer release, without giving any hint on the exact date, things are getting real this time. However, most of the features have already been made public, so there are no big surprises here. It is certain that Apple intends to integrate iPad features of iOS on Mac models, as well.
iCloud
Integration of all apps and new social services will be made available through iCloud. End users will be able to share their photos and have their friends comment on them, and they will be able to store their videos in a stream.
New Mac models
MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are guaranteed to take the market by storm this year. As Apple announced, the two lines will satisfy customers’ needs for a beefy Mac – with MacBook Pro – and for a light notebook that does it all – MacBook Air.
Apple TV
As it is expected for a long time, Apple TV finally arrives. As a software kit for developers is unveiled, more progress in this direction is expected for the next months.
