Samsung, the reputable Korean manufacturer of consumers’ electronics, leads a raging war against Apple and especially its products. By designing and producing products that are very similar in purpose and aspect with Apple products, Samsung is trying to corner the market from a different angle. However, this does not mean that Apple intends to give up what it considers to be rightfully its.
Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned from selling in the US
The latest confrontation between Samsung and Apple is related to the Samsung tablet, Galaxy Tab 10.1. Intended as a competitor for the now famous iPad, the Samsung gadget has just been banned from being produced and sold in the US. As the design patent war was taken to court, during the preliminary injunction, a California judge established that Apple has every right to contest Samsung’s rights to be able to produce and sell Galaxy Tab 10.1. It seems that, according to the judge, the tablet designed by Samsung is too much alike with the iPad, and that it cannot be commercialized as a different product, creating unfair competition. On the other hand, Samsung does not seem too affected by the decision. According to the company representatives, tablets do not represent a high selling point for Samsung in the US, so the losses are negligible, to say the least.
Galaxy S3 versus iPhone 4S
Tablets are not the only field where the two giants are involved in a tight confrontation. As far as smartphones are concerned, Galaxy S3 seems to be making quite a point against Apple’s iPhone 4S, in terms of features, capabilities, and consumers’ popularity.
- The operating system
While Galaxy S3 uses Android, iPhone 4S is powered by Apple iOS 5. There are not important differences from this point of view, since these solid operating systems will receive new updates in a few months time.
- Aspect
Smartphones are all about looks, before taking a look at capabilities. Samsung’s flagship smartphone is longer, wider and thinner than Apple’s product, so some may prefer the larger screen and the higher resolution put at their disposal by Galaxy S3.
- Pricing
The pricing on the two smartphones is not very different, as both range their versions between 200 and 400USD. It must be noted, however, that Galaxy S3 does not come in a 64GB version as does Apple’s smartphone. Here are the prices for these phones:
- Apple iPhone 4S 16GB at 199USD (two year standard contract)
- Apple iPhone 4S 32GB at 299USD (two year standard contract)
- Apple iPhone 4S 64GB at 399USD (two year standard contract)
- Samsung Galaxy S3 16GB at 199USD (on contracts with Verizon, AT&T and Sprint)
- Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB at 249USD (on contracts with Verizon, AT&T and Sprint)
- Samsung Galaxy S3 16GB at 249USD (on contracts with T-Mobile)
- Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB at 329USD (on contracts with T-Mobile)
Another difference that has to be noted is that Galaxy S3 comes with 4G and NFC capabilities, while iPhone S4 still has a long way to go in that direction.
