Will the iPad Prevail Over the Surface and Nexus 7?

When you want to sell old iPad to get a new version, you might want to take a pause before getting the latest version of the iPad and consider other alternatives. Now is the right time to think about this as Google and Microsoft have launched their entries in the tablet war. Google’s Nexus 7 quietly became available in the middle of July with low fanfare but with very good sales results so far.  On the other hand, Microsoft’s Surface will be only be available in a few months.  The buzz and excitement over these tablets is at its peak as people have been wondering if these are the ones that will knock the iPad off its pedestal.

The Surface comes in two versions:  The Surface Pro and the Surface RT. The latter runs Windows RT and is said to be designed to compete with the iPad and similar tablets.  The Pro is Intel-based and runs on Windows 8 Pro, and is targeted to compete with ultrabooks and higher-end tablet PCs. Both versions come with a Touch Cover that also functions as a keyboard.   For those who just want to have a tablet like they are used to, then the Surface RT is a great choice.  For those who want something more heavy-duty and multi-functional, then the Surface Pro is a great option.  Of course, those who choose the Pro may have to  shell out a few more dollars.

On the other hand, the Nexus 7 is developed by Google and built by ASUS. It runs on the Android Jelly Bean and priced starting at $199. At 7 inches in size, it was made to compete with smaller tablets such as the Kindle Fire, the B&N Nook, and the Samsung Galaxy 7. At a price comparable to cheap tablets but with features that offer effortless user experience, the Nexus 7 can clearly get a share of the iPad’s market, especially with people who don’t want to shell out a lot of money for a tablet that they will essentially use for play or leisure time.

So far, the reviews for the Nexus 7 have been positive. Moreover, if sales figures for the first week of its release are an indication, we might be seeing a fierce fight provided by Nexus 7 in the tablet wars.  But then, we can always observe what will unfold in the following months, as many skeptics are claiming that what is happening with the Nexus 7 may be what happened with the Kindle Fire in December. The initial thrill in sales did not last long, and figures declined after only five months, proof that people were not really ready to give up and sell iPad for the Fire.

With the iPad still projected to dominate the premium sector of the tablet market and the Nexus 7 gaining users in the inexpensive sector, it seems that the Surface has more of a challenge to find its place in the market. When you sell old iPad, it is best to do more research before buying a new one.
